Photos...

You have lots of photos and they all have stories. Now's the time to write a short paragraph about them and share them with your family and friends. And you can put them in our STORY COLLECTION so that other subscribers can enjoy them too. They can be featured in our newsletter. Whether you share them is up to you. Imagine all the photos you and your family have stored away.

My family kept them in boxes. I used several of those old photos throughout my website. It was fun to go through them and hear about those old times. You can easily scan them and build short stories around them.

Recipes...

Do you have a box of recipes sitting in a corner that you pull out from time to time? It's cluttered with your favorites that may be dog-eared and stained from use. Now, there's a template to help you to gather your memories about favorite recipes. These recipes capture your imagination bringing back memories of the meals you shared with your family or your friends.

For example, there is one recipe I have for brussels sprouts from the San Francisco Chronicle years ago that everybody seems to like. It has some star anise in it and it's flavored with apples and cider so it gives the brussels sprouts a slightly sweet flavor. I think that's why even people who don't like brussels sprouts very much enjoy this dish.

To see the template, check the STORY IDEAS PAGE on TellOurLifeStories. You'll also find the brussels sprouts recipe with its story as well as one about my grandma's apple pie, which was the best ever.

This might be a good time to give your mom or grandma a gift subscription, for mother's day, so that they can collect their recipes and share them with you online.

Books about Writing Stories

I was recently reading Millie Kalish's New York Times bestselling book Little Heathens. She starts it out by saying, "This is the story of a time, and a place, and a family. The time was the Depression years, the place a rural area of Iowa, the family - mine."
